What is Lure Racing
From the American Sighthound Field Association website:
Lure Coursing is a performance event developed in the early 70's by Lyle Gillette and other California sighthound fanciers who hunted jackrabbits in the open field, which risked the harm caused by barbed wire fencing. They invented lure coursing as a safer, more controlled sport for sighthounds that would recreate the physical requirements of open field coursing, allowing them to continue testing the functional abilities of their sighthounds. The hounds chase plastic bags on a course laid out to simulate escaping game.
But many dogs love the thrill of the chase – not just sighthounds. And that’s why we created the Lure Coursing Fanatics Club! It doesn’t matter if your dog is a Chihuahua or a Great Dane or a mix of anything in between – if they love to chase things, they will LOVE Lure Coursing! And even if you think they won’t – many people are very surprised when their dogs go nuts for the lure!! At our events all breeds are allowed to run the lure – Cane Corso, Black Russian Terrier, Cocker Spaniels, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Labs, Malamutes, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Sighthounds, Dalmatians, Great Danes, Scottish Terriers and many more ... plus many mixed. We don't care WHAT breed your dog is - they can give it a try and see if they become Lure Fanatics, too!
Our course is run in a fully fenced 2 acre field on our property. Our field is mowed weekly to keep down the weeds and give the dogs a nice even surface for running. We always 'walk the line' before we start coursing to make sure there aren't any hazards - especially when we run our equipment at other locations. The only dog(s) allowed in the field are the ones running the course. A dog can run alone or with a friend - it is up to the owners. We are experienced in running many different breeds - even the super fast sighthounds.
It's not just about chasing the lure. It's about having fun SAFELY! Safety is our #1 rule. If we don't think it's safe for a dog to run - they do not run. Puppies are treated differently than adults but even a pup as young as 8 weeks can give it a go! Our vet is located just 10 minutes away and has an off-hours emergency service (if something were to go wrong). We also keep a First Aid kit handy for minor cuts and scraps. Our course is approximately 200 yards long - shorter than a regulation course for sighthounds but long enough for dogs to have fun!
Have your OWN Lure Coursing Party!
Are you celebrating your dogs birthday? Or maybe having a picnic with all the people that purchased your puppies? Why not add Lure Coursing to your event!
Our requirements are very similar to the Fundraisers. First you have to decide - your location or ours? We have a fully fenced, 2 acre field to run the dogs. We also have ample street parking, areas to set up crates or tables for picnics, electricity, running water and lots of shade.
If you want us to use your location you MUST have the following:
* An area at LEAST 100' square in which to run the dogs (bigger is better)
* The area MUST be fully fenced (or located within a full fenced area), relatively level and free of obstructions (like bushes or trees)
We can start as early as 9 am and run for up to 8 hours. We do require a 30 minute lunch break during the day.
We charge $200 for using our location or $275 for using yours. If your location is more than 60 miles from ours there is a mileage charge - $.56 per mile (we use Google Maps to calculate the miles). If your location is more than 2 hours (one way) from ours you are required to pay for 2 nights at a pet friendly hotel in the area for us.
We require that a disclaimer is signed by anyone wanting to run their dog. The disclaimer covers the lure coursing AND the photography. We will provide a digital copy fo the disclaimer - it's up to you to have enough copies for everyone attending the party.
As always, we will be taking wonderful photographs while the dogs are running. These photos will be available for purchase via our photography website. We can also do portrait photography during your party.

The weather, the age and health/condition of your dog and how much they like the game will determine exactly how many times we let them run around the field, chasing the lure, during each trip to the field. Puppies only do straight runs - no turns. So we send them down the straight-away and back (several times if they are so inclined). After their first trips into the field we have the owners take them out and cool them down. On very hot days that means a dunk in the pool -
